Previous generations built their businesses, brands, and markets with traditional marketing tactics: direct, mail, radio, press, billboards, and television. In my own experience, I can say that these do work, but it takes time and money to develop a massive client base. Most real estate agents have neither the time nor the money to invest and wait until clients start coming in.

After four great years of working with the television network, Telemundo, I had the opportunity to work with Univision where they assigned me a social media expert. I did not believe, at first, this expert could help me develop my business. As it turned out, she did and my business skyrocketed due to her advice. She convinced me by asking who I admired professionally. I mentioned people like Richard Branson, Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey, Ivanka Trump. After reviewing the way they use content, and the methods by which they use the internet to spread their message, I was hooked. In less than six months my business grew to a completely different level.

This is what I learned: YOU ARE NO LONGER IN THE BUSINESS OF REAL ESTATE. YOU ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF PRODUCING CONTENT. What did I just say? Read on.

Eighty percent of all buyers start their search on the internet. The fastest, cheapest, most effective way to differentiate yourself and grasp the attention of buyers, and sellers alike, is by creating relevant content that positions you as the expert in your field.

Content is what sets you apart. We live in the digital age where, in order to position yourself as the expert of choice in the minds of your clients, and in order to constantly execute the income producing activities of every professional sales person (prospecting, prequalify, following up, and presenting in order to close more deals and grow your business) you must constantly create content.

Content is what allows me to position myself as an expert and allows me to prospect, prequalify, follow up and present on a daily basis.

Content allowed me to be in every media outlet and to get paid, as well. Yes, get paid. You can see examples in Telemundo, Univision, MasterCard, and seminars, among other venues where I not only am invited to participate in their television and radio shows–which creates amazing exposure and credibility–but I also get paid very well for my involvement, creating yet another source of income.

The way I set myself apart from the competition and the way most top producers set apart from their competitors are through relationships, content, or both. I suggest you do both.

You must be able to promote yourself. The best way to promote yourself is by creating relevant content instead of doing what most agents do–wait for buyers and sellers to find them.

Five years ago it would have taken months to get the kind of word of mouth exposure–the most powerful form of marketing–that can now take only seconds.

Today, we have the ability to take our message around the world to millions of people faster, easier, and more effectively than ever before. You must realize that we live in a NEW ECONOMY and you need to change the way you do business, not because change is coming but because change is already here.

Remember, a business is only as strong as its closest relationship and, today, we have the opportunity to make more and closer relationships. Developing relationships and getting your message across is pivotal to your business success. With the tools we have today, you can make it happen on a much larger scale–cheaper, faster, and easier.

We are way past the era of pushing services and cold calling. People are too smart for that. Today, we have to inspire through unfiltered quality interactions (content).
